“Propušteno” is a multimedia work that brings together text and dance with photographic and musical material. It interweaves motifs from H. L. Borges’s short story The House of Asterion with a reflection on the original idea behind, and the realization of, the building of the Open University, its openness, dynamism, and capacity to let people, knowledge, and sunlight pass through. The work also plays with the semantic duality of the word “propušteno” (“missed” / “let through”).
On the one hand, “letting through” is a prerequisite for life, from one cell to another; on the other, we often have the feeling that we have “missed” doing something that we should have done. In this context, Borges’s Minotaur, a creature of darkness, says: “I am not interested in what one man can transmit to other people,” while the building in which we perform this work, a kind of “house of light,” tells its users and visitors precisely the opposite: “We coexist, boundaries are permeable; within the labyrinth, we may lose our way, but we may also encounter one another.”
The project was realized with the support of the City of Zagreb.
19 and 20 September at 8 PM, at the CEKAO Gallery of the Open University, 68 Ulica grada Vukovara.
