INDIGO

Idea: Zrinka Šimičić Mihanović
Concept development, choreography and dance: Sonja Pregrad, Zrinka Šimičić Mihanović, Zrinka Užbinec
Sound design: Hrvoslava Brkušić
Light design: Igor Pauška

In “Indigo” our aim is to consider dance as the movement of the space around the body, but also to consider dance as the answer to the movement of the space around the body, dance as an act of transformation, dance as a result of the perception of the Other i.e. dance that engages the Other. What we are interested in is kinesthetic empathy, the bodily understanding of another, coalescence, the sharing of space. Methodologically speaking, this art piece is a continuation of the previous piece by the Pregrad-Šimičić-Užbinec trio called “Movement Thought Turn” wherein the three authors/performers tackled the question of motivation and dealt with the revelation of the process of how dance i.e. performance material comes to be, verbally articulating thoughts that precede a certain act or are present during it. This new art piece is a product of the sharpening of certain segments of the performance which are directly (or indirectly) conditioned by the Other: the movement of the Other, the gaze of the Other, the vicinity of the Other…dancer, as well as the audience.

Indigo is a dialogical performance which literally scintillates out of the play with everyone present… It is impossible to tell what exactly is being exchanged between the trio Pregrad, Šimičić and Užbinec and their audience, but it is certainly about the subtle quality of mutual acquaintance and acceptance in which one party (the performers) is more vulnerable and more open than the other party (the audience), which moves the standards of reacting and the gathered viewers. The very play of glancing, smiling and getting closer is sufficient for the emergence of a joint kinetic body of all the participants in this performance…”
