Our skin is the border between our body and the space around us. By moving our body, we move that border, move the space around us, change our surroundings.
In "Indigo" our aim is to consider dance as the movement of the space around the body, but also to consider dance as the answer to the movement of the space around the body, dance as an act of transformation, dance as a result of the perception of the other i.e. dance that engages the other. What we are interested in is kinesthetic empathy, the bodily understanding of another, coalescence, the sharing of space.
Living systems are an integrated whole, whose characteristics cannot be reduced to the characteristics of their individual parts (…) If the system is broken up into its individual parts, systematic characteristics fade (…) To explain something with the help of context means to explain something with the help of its surroundings. Systematic comprehension is at the same time comprehension turned towards its environment (…) The things we call „parts“ are just patterns in a non-divisible network of relations. According to the systematic comprehension of the world, they themselves are the objects of a web of relations, that are a part of bigger webs(Fritjof Capra: The Web of Life)
Methodologically speaking, this work is a continuation of the previous work by the Pregrad-Šimičić-Užbinec trio called "Pokret Mislim Okret" wherein the three authors/performers tackled the question of motivation and dealt with the revelation of the process of how dance i.e. performance material comes to be, verbally articulating thoughts that precede or follow a certain act.
This new work is a product of the sharpening of certain segments of the performance which are directly (or indirectly) conditioned by the Other: the movement of the Other, the gaze of the Other, the vicinity of the Other…dancer, as well as the audience.
